The Presidents Message
Dear esteemed members and associate members
I am proud to announce to you all that the Surgical Society Of Ethiopia (SSI) is showing a sound progress as a professional society committed to serve its esteemed members and associate members, by engaging with federal ministry of health (FMOH) and partners working on surgical services to Our nation. These efforts are being made because of dedicated executive committee members and contribution of its members who at all levels are trying their best to achieve a sustainable growth and development for our society.
Among the leading activities we are working On is the development Of a friendly and informant website is one. We very soon are working to change our newsletter to a journal which we think creates a strong communication between the members, associate members, partner organization and policy makers. We have developed a way to network our members through chapter offices and representatives to increase our members' size and participation countrywide. We are impressed by the activity of the already established chapters which are doing responsible activity within the regions representing the SSE. This activity will lead a way to development Of the College of Surgeons Of Ethiopia (CSE) in the near future when our critical mass is optimal. The SSE is working hard to implement the global effort of Safe Surgery program with the FMOH and partners working in the same area. This collaboration on safe surgery saves lives through a planned implementation will build the capacity Of the surgical workforce, who are caring, responsible and compassionate is in line with our dreams to serve our nation which has given us the chance to work in this area.
The SSE is currently working with the FMOH and partner organizations to develop a regional body On building a capacity on leadership, team work, patient safety and development Of a surgical workforce which will move the surgical service coverage further. All effort to benefit our nation is being made with unreserved participation. The SSE is also taping experience from already established colleges by a solid experience sharing from COSECSA, WACA ACS to build Our college of surgeons of Ethiopia in the near future with all the necessary functional components to assist our members on knowledge transfer, sound policy on safe surgical services medico-legal issues, medical insurance and build a sustainable service which enables both the professional and the beneficiaries.
This year the SSE in collaboration with the Pan African Association of Surgeons (PMS) organized a conference with the theme "Global Surgery Implementation in Africa During this year's AGM the SSE has organized two important CPDs on Neuro-trauma and Facial surgery. Moreover. there is a panel discussion on surgical leadership and quality which is going to be very informative. In addition, all the usual activities which include business meeting, scientific sessions and state-of -the art lectures will be conducted.
